WHY SHOULD I GET A PORTFOLIO REVIEW

I believe every photographer needs to have a fresh set of eyes look at their work and give constructive feedback. Many photographers are working alone and end up getting lost in the woods through the constraint of financial situations and social media pressure within the photo industry. The key in today’s world is to stand out from the masses and to have a clear visual opinion. The echo chamber bottles up a lot of photographers and getting a trusted review of your work will help you break out of any rut that you find yourself in.

REVIEW PHILOSOPHY

My goals are to clear the clutter, to help you identify your strengths, to refine your portfolio and to pinpoint where fear is holding you back.

My advice and recommendations come from 22 years of experience in photography. Having my Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography gives me a solid background to speak to the artistic side of your work and over two decades of hard-earned lessons in business give me first hand experiences to share.

HOW IT WORKS

Portfolio Reviews last 1.5 hours and cost $150.

We will do the review over Zoom.

After you set up your Portfolio Review, I’ll email you a list of things I need before we meet.

CLIENT REVIEWS

Michael takes great care to understand your unique perspective and strengths as a photographer. Going into my initial review with him, I was looking for direction and clarity in my current work. His insight was not only helpful, but eye-opening in my strengths as a photographer and where I should take my work next. Michael’s years of experience and wisdom in the industry are an asset in helping bring clarity and a fresh perspective to your goals as a photographer, and to your work. I appreciate his intuitive viewpoint and advice he offered. Michael’s portfolio review is a worthwhile investment for any photographer seeking valuable insight and direction in their work, and I look forward to using his review as a sounding board again soon.

My portfolio review with Michael was very insightful. Before my review with him, I felt confused and unsure what direction to take my work. His perceptive and unbiased eye identified specific qualities he saw in my work that helped me know what direction to go. He helped me know what attributes I should build upon, and others I should let go of. He also helped me identify the strongest images in my portfolio, and gave me actionable advice on how to fine tune my website to attract my ideal clients.  His advice was insightful, but also hands on and practical. He gave me several important items to add to my to do list. My experience with him helped me take my business to the next level. It was a very valuable experience, and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

“I've done three portfolio reviews with Michael at pivotal points in my career. His advice is that rare blend of artistic and professional; in other words, how to make work that sells without selling out. He will help you get clear on what you want, who you are and what you want to do. He's also down to earth and helps you make concepts concrete. His years of experience have made him a force to be reckoned with and he truly cares for the photographic industry. I personally recommend Michael to other photographers because I think he is a secret genius with a father's heart and his wisdom will truly move you forward.”

"It was time to get honest about my work. How much can I grow if I’m not seeking critiques from a reliable source? Michael spoke into my work in a way that was both extremely honest and encouraging. He helped me to identify my strongest images, as well as the weakest ones. I saw my work in a new light. I was inspired to dig through my archive of photos and curate a collection of images that best represent my brand. I was inspired to shoot more intentionally. Along the way, Michael even gave me helpful tips about my processing, website, blog and social media. At our last session, we discussed my pricing structure and he gave me eye-opening ideas for how to take my business to the next level.

I chose Michael because of his incredible involvement in our photography community, his experience and solid portfolio in wedding and editorial photography and his educational background. My mentor sessions with Michael are by far one of the best business investments I’ve made."

"After moving primarily into the wedding market over the last couple years, I was finding myself stuck and sometimes uncertain of my own style. Sitting down with Michael clarified for me once again who I AM as a photographer and where I want to go. He not only offered advice on editing style and lens choices, but the portfolio review was so beneficial for me. His guidance and advice helped to clear out the external distractions and allowed me to refocus. I can't thank him enough for his honest, motivating ideas and thoughts on my work!"

"Michael helped me understand that struggle is ok. To slow down, there is no magic bullet. He helped me connect the dots between my own personal story and the images I was trying to create. Michael is as dedicated as they come to the craft of photography and I would highly recommend a mentoring session with him if you're in need of a push! "
